National Lampoon´s eurotrip with Dad and Shannon in Paris!

It all began in Paris. I took a morning flight from Madrid and met up with my dad and my cousin Shannon at the airport in Paris. They had a long flight but were looking excellent. Shannon didn´t sleep on the plane and I am sure my dad did because he can sleep anywhere.

The first day was the day we all arrived and we touring the Notre Dame cathedral which was really cool. While Shannon and I toured the cathedral my dad was busy paying money to light candles and say a prayer. I don´t approve of this method and I think it is ridiculous to pay for a prayer but Martin Luther might say the same thing.

After the tour my dad went home to sleep while Shannon (who didn´t sleep on the plane) and I explored Paris and walked down the Champs Elysees which leads to the big arch monument. It was rainy weather in Paris which is different from what I was experiencing in Spain. Shannon speaks French so we had a nice advantage in the city. Shannon and I climbed the arch but on the way down Shannon had a little whipe out on the never ending rambling stairs. We walked home thru the park and bought a hot dog that was served in a Bagguete which cheese on it. It was good, and the French really know how to spice up their mustard.

We went back to our nice hotel which was located right by the Notre Dame and my dad was sleeping and we got him up so that we could go out to eat. We walked maybe a distance of 50 yards and ended up at an Italian restaurant. We all got pizzas, how American lol, but that wasn´t the good part. My dad being the typical American said "gracias" to the waitress. It was a little too much but we got thru it somehow.

The next day everyone was rested but my dad´s snoring was hard to get thru in the night. We got up and hit the amazing french bakery. We got some Macarons and some Cresants. Everything in Paris is really expensive but it was all delicious. We headed to the Eiffel tower and planned on climbing it. While waiting in line my dad decided to opt out of standing and sit on the bench and "make some calls" while Shannon and I waited for a long time to get in the elevator. We got to the top I think after three hours. It started snowing and was quite cold. After that whole ordeal, the Griswolds, as we called ourselves walked around the park nearby and got some sandwiches. We attempted to go to the lourve that day but it was closed so we went the next day. Instead of the museum we went to red light district of town. This is where the famous Moulin Rouge is located. WE walked around for a while, explored a basilica that was on the hill and got some crepes. We drank a lot of wine with cheese while in Paris and the cheese was really good aswell.

After the crepes we did some shopping and my dad, wanting to fit in with the locals, bought a nice french hat and wore it during our stay in Paris. It was a nice show. We forgot to go to some art area in this area but it was fine with us, because my dad leads us down a massive flight of stairs in the opposite direction.

We then took the metro home to our hotel and got all ready for our Paris pub crawl. THe metro was nice in Paris and it was pretty east to use. One funny thing was when there was this couple who got into huge fight on the metro and they were yelling in French and kicking stuff. They got off the train at one point and my cousin Shannon said that the only thing she understood in the whole little fight was the word "grandma". It was pretty entertaining though.

That night we didnt really eat dinner and we just hit the town. We went to a bunch of pubs and it was really fun. We met tons of people. There were tons of English people there, wasted as usual, and they provided some nice entertainment. WE also went to a piano bar which was super classy and might have been too fancy for us Griswolds. It was cool though, a guy playing the grand piano, another playing the violin and a lady singing in French. After this we saw a greek restaurant smashing plates and it attracted us to go inside. WE all got to smash some plates and scream so it was pretty sweet. We ate some dinner and then went to one more pub before calling it a night. It was a great time and I have a funny video of all of us screaming the popular song by Oasis.

The next day we got up early and went to the lourve. My dad decided to opt out of this trip. Shannon and I wanted to get some breakfast before and saw a restaurant and we realized it was too expensive and fancy for breakfast so we just got out of our table and left, we looked pretty classy. We went to some place more casual and got crepes and french omletes. They were delicious and we then went to the museum. I really thought the museum was so so big and there were too many people. It was cool to see some of the art, but there were too many people for me to really appreciate it all. The mona lisa was just surrounded by people snapping shots of it and it was just so shallow Shannon and I didn´t really stay to look at it.

After the lourve we went home to get my dad who would be napping instead of seeing the arts of the world. We got my dad and walked around and went to the Champs Elysees. Instead of walking, my dad decided he would hire a Rikshaw to bike him down the road. he didn´t really warn us and by the time we crosses the street my dad was cruising along on his cell phone as usual while Shannon and I walked the whole way. We met him at the end of the road and saw some memorial thing going on at the arch of triumph and then we headed back to the hotel to get ready to go out.

This night we ate french food. I had duck and creme bruule while the others had typical food aswell. It was a great meal and wasn´t super expensive. We then went to the Eiffel tower to see it light up. We went out a little after this and went to bed. We had to get up pretty early the next day to head to Barcelona.

I loved Paris and it was a clean city, the people were very nice, and the food was so good. I don´t know where bad stereotypes of this city come from but I really liked it so I wouldn´t believe what people say about it.

The highlights of our time in Paris.

The Food: Crepes, Duck, Baguettes, Macarons, hot dogs, pizza, greek food. It was all delicious.

When my dad ditched us and was cruising down the Champs Elysees in a little car with a person biking while he talked on his cell phone.

When my dad said "gracias" to the waitress in the Italian restuarant in Paris!?

Since we are the Griswolds I was called Rus and Shannon was called Audrey through the entire time.

Our pub crawl. We were fed circus peanuts with out beer. We broke plates with the Greeks, we classed it up at some fancy piano bar and we met some classy English people.

My dad would opt out of many excursions and spent most of the time looking for internet or a nice nap.

When my dad bought 15 minutes of internet and realized it was a French keyboard and spent most of the time trying to decode and put in his log in info.

The best part was when Shannon and I would bring my dad around in the metro and we would tell him if he gets lost, he wont make it home. One time in the train he thought we got off and started screaming my name like usual "Adam" "Adam" he yelled with his nice accent and Shannon and I pretended to not hear him.

Photos, all taken by Shannon, our photographer.
